The poem “On Earth” by Carolyn Forché, which was excerpted for use as the libretto in “The Blue Hour”, follows one woman’s journey through the space between life and death via thousands of hallucinatory and non-linear images, exploring memories of childhood,
of war, of love, and of loss. These instrumental arrangements include expression indications for sudden mood and style changes, timbre and tempo shifts, and atmospheric effects meant to depict these slivers of memories experienced by the lyric lead voice.
