New arrangement by Rachel Grimes – Good Sweet Ham: The Great End Song
Words and music by Henry Hart, originally published in 1875 by J. L. Peters of New York, NY. End songs of the day were typically humorous with a lively instrumental dance between verses. This song features a tenor/baritone soloist with a choir of Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass, and piano accompaniment, along with an instrumental “Symphony” between verses. The lyrics use a heavy Southern dialect, traditional with minstrel songs of the day. A few outdated, offensive words have been altered in this edition, which now includes violin and cello.
